Beatitudes- Matthew 5:3-12
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3)
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5)
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6)
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. (Matthew 5:7)
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8)
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:10)
Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. (Matthew 5:11)
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:12)
Beatitudes comes from the Latin noun Beatitudo which means Happiness.
This is a part of the Sermon on the Mount by Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew [Chapters 5, 6, 7] and also part of Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke [Luke 6:17-49]
Each Beatitude consists of 2 phrases- condition and result.
Before Sermon on the Mount, Jesus had been about all Galilee preaching and great crowds followed him. Jesus saw the multitudes and goes up a mount and preaches.
